FREEHOLDA pedestrian death that took place Thursday night in Ocean Township is under investigation, Monmouth County Prosecutor Raymond S. Santiago announced on Friday.

At approximately 8:18 p.m., members of the Ocean Township Police Department responded to the area of State Highway 35 and Valley Road for a reported pedestrian struck by a motor vehicle.

Preliminary investigation revealed that a 38-year-old male was walking in the roadway on the southbound side of the highway when he was struck by a 2015 Jeep Wrangler driven by a 66-year-old female in the left lane.

The pedestrian was taken to Jersey Shore University Medical Center, and was pronounced deceased shortly thereafter at 8:59 p.m.

The driver operating the Wrangler remained on scene.

An investigation involving members of the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office, Monmouth County Serious Collision Analysis Response Team (SCART), and the Ocean Township Police Department remains active and ongoing. No charges or summonses have been issued with regard to the incident at this time.
