FREEHOLD – An incident in which a pedestrian was struck and killed by a vehicle in Freehold Township Tuesday evening is under investigation, Monmouth County Prosecutor Raymond S. Santiago announced Wednesday.   

At approximately 5:35 p.m. on Tuesday, January 9, members of the Freehold Township Police Department responded to the southbound lanes of U.S. Route 9 several hundred feet north of the interchange with State Route 33 to find the victim, a 61-year-old male, lying in the roadway. He was subsequently pronounced deceased at the scene.

The involved driver, a 48-year-old male operating a 2001 Ford F-150 pickup truck, remained on the scene.

An investigation involving members of the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office, Monmouth County Serious Collision Analysis Response Team (SCART), and the Freehold Township Police Department remains active. As of this writing, no criminal charges have been filed nor traffic summons issued with regard to this incident.
