FREEHOLD – A 34-year old Hazlet Township woman died as a result of being struck by a motor vehicle along Route 36 in Hazlet Monday evening, announced Monmouth County Prosecutor Christopher J. Gramiccioni.
The pedestrian, Crystal Vernon, was crossing Route 36 eastbound, in a marked crosswalk at the intersection with Laurel Avenue, at approximately 9:22 p.m. on Monday evening when she was struck by a 2004 Ford Freestar van driven by Margaret Holtz, 67, of North Middletown. The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene at 9:39 p.m.
The driver Holtz had one occupant in the car, male, age 85, both were uninjured.
The crash remains under investigation by the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office, Fatal Accident Unit, Monmouth County Serious Collision Analysis Response Team (SCART), and Hazlet Police Department.
