Intelligence gathering is a fundamental and essential pursuit of the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office. When acquired, intelligence is used to prevent crime, pursue and apprehend offenders and obtain evidence necessary for conviction of criminal defendants and other investigative purposes. Accordingly, the Intelligence Unit was established in September of 2009.
The mission of the Intelligence unit is to gather intelligence in accordance with 28CFR, Part 23 in order to analyze that information to provide intelligence on individuals or organizations that may be planning or engaging in criminal activity, to further crime prevention and the investigative objectives of the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office, including vice, drugs and organized crime activities.
The Intelligence Unit serves as the centralized source for criminal intelligence queries to enhance investigative efforts throughout the Office, Additionally, “crime tips” received via the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office Web page will be forwarded to the intelligence Unit for evaluation and handling.
