The third in a series of videos aimed at educating the parents of middle school, high school and college aged students about the deadly epidemic of prescription painkillers and heroin, Understanding the Reach of Drug Abuse begins with a brief discussion about heroin: what it is, where it comes from and how it is bought and sold on the streets. The discuss turns to statistics of drug sales nationally ($55 billion is spent each year by heroin users to buy heroin) and how that compares to the revenue of some major Fortune 500 companies. The discussion also turns its focus on the numbers of opioids/heroin overdoses compared to fatal motor vehicle crashes, homicides and other drug overdose deaths.
