Avoid Grandparent Scams or Family Emergency Scams!  Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office is urging residents to be skeptical and vigilant to avoid becoming victims of scams, especially those scams targeting elderly residents.  During this COVID-19 Pandemic, Grandparent scams have taken a new twist, and a new sense of urgency.  Con artists are calling senior citizens pretending to be their grandchildren and telling them they have some emergency and need their help. The help always comes in the form of money needed to fix the emergency, and the scammer always asks their target to wire money, deposit money, or even let the suspect come to the residence to collect the funds.  Con artists may call late at night to confuse potential victims. Please beware and warn your loved ones and friends.  The caller may “sound” like your grandchild or relative, but they most certainly are NOT!
