FREEHOLD – A man has been arrested in connection with a shooting Thursday night in Freehold Township, announced Monmouth County Prosecutor Christopher J. Gramiccioni.
Kader Mustafa, 36, is charged with Murder, Attempted Murder, two counts of Unlawful Possession of a Weapon and Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose, in connection with the fatal shooting of 24-year old Sciasia Calhoun, of Freehold Borough. The shooting took place at State Route 33 East and Halls Mill Road west bound in Freehold Township late last night.
A 911 call was received at 11:44 p.m. regarding a woman who was shot inside her vehicle while driving on Rt. 33. The investigation revealed that Mustafa fired at Calhoun’s vehicle while operating a 2005 white in color Chevrolet Impala. Calhoun was operating a 1997 blue in color Mazda Protege and was accompanied by her boyfriend and their one-year old child. No physical injuries were sustained by the boyfriend and child.
Calhoun was transported by Freehold First Aid with the assistance of Monmouth Ocean Hospital Service Corporation (MONOC) to CentraState Medical Center and was pronounced dead at approximately 12:46 a.m.
Following a multi-agency investigation, Mustafa was apprehended in Manalapan in the area of Oakland Mills Road at approximately 8:10 a.m. while inside his vehicle.
The area surrounding Rt. 33 and Halls Mill Road was closed for approximately eight hours to investigate the crime scene.
The investigation is still active and ongoing, but investigators do not believe there is any threat to public safety. Detectives are confident that there is no connection between the homicide of Earl Sanders on April 29th and the shooting of Sciasia Calhoun. Detectives are awaiting the results of ballistic testing to ascertain whether there is a connection between the shooting incidents on April 27th in Neptune Township and April 28th in Holmdel with last night’s incident. Those investigations remain ongoing. Anyone who may have information about the incident is urged to contact Detective Andrea Tozzi of the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office at 800-533-7443 or Detective Jamie Burdge of the Freehold Township Police Department at 732- 462-7500.
